150 per model, 75 per colour: how our MOQ works for leather belts
Our minimum order for belts in stock leather: 150 pieces per model, at least 75 per colour. What that means in practice for your first order — with examples.
How do you spread a first order across colours without having to buy thousands of pieces? At Bluestar the rule is simple: for belts in stock leather we start at 150 pieces per model, with a minimum of 75 pieces per colour. In this short article we explain what that means in practice, with examples of what works and what doesn't.
the-rule
The rule: 150 per model, 75 per colour
A 'model' is one design: the same width, construction, stitching and buckle. Within that model you can combine colours, as long as each colour counts at least 75 pieces and the model totals at least 150 pieces.
why-75
Why a 75-piece minimum per colour?
Every colour requires its own set-up in the atelier: that colour's leather is cut, the machines are adjusted and the thread is changed. That set-up takes the same time for 10 pieces as for 75. Below 75 pieces per colour, a European production loses money on every belt — and the unit price would become unfairly high for you.
By combining colours within one model you still keep variety in your collection, without the cost of three separate production lots.

The rule applies to stock leather with a stock buckle. Within the 75 pieces per colour you can freely spread sizes. For non-stock leather (your own leather colour) the tannery MOQ applies — roughly 70–100 m² of leather. Production takes 2 to 5 months after confirmation.

150 pieces per model, at least 75 per colour: that is the entry point for your own belt collection in European stock leather. Enough variety to launch your brand, small enough to keep the risk manageable.
Can I split 150 belts of one model across two colours?
Yes. For example 75 brown and 75 black. Each colour must count at least 75 pieces and the model must total at least 150 pieces.
Can I split 150 belts across three colours of 50?
No. Three colours of 50 pieces (for example 50 blue, 50 red, 50 black) is not possible, because each colour would fall below the 75-piece minimum per colour. Choose one colour of 150 or two colours of 75.
Can I combine different sizes within one colour?
Yes. The 75 pieces per colour can be freely spread across the sizes of that model.
Does this MOQ also apply to a custom leather colour?
No. The 150-per-model and 75-per-colour rule applies to stock leather. For a custom-developed leather colour the tannery minimum applies, roughly 70–100 m² of leather.
